1B · Visual Strategy
Wrong options are designed to look possible
A distractor may repeat words from the text, be generally true, overgeneralize, distort cause and effect or answer a different question. Eliminate by asking: Does this option answer exactly what was asked?
Example 1
Keyword repetition can be a trap.
Example 2
An option must answer the exact question.
Example 3
True but irrelevant information is still wrong.
1C · Inferential Listening
Question: Why is an option with the same words as the text not automatically correct?
In Saber 11-style questions, one option may repeat an exact phrase from the text but still fail to answer the question. Another may be partly true but too general. Strategic readers compare every option with the task, eliminate unsupported choices and justify the final answer with evidence.
