1B · Visual Strategy

Diagnostic performance map

A strong diagnosis identifies WHAT you can do, WHERE you lose time, and WHY an answer is wrong. The goal is not only a score; it is a strategy profile.

1C · Inferential Listening

Question: What information should a useful diagnostic provide?

Before preparing for Saber 11, students need to know how they currently perform. A useful diagnostic checks reading comprehension, inferential listening and response time. If a student answers quickly but cannot justify the answer, speed is not enough. The most useful result is a profile that shows which strategies already work and which skills need deliberate practice.
Environmental Monitoring Dialogue & Pronunciation Lab
Pair task: Daniel and Laura read the dialogue in four recording blocks. Each student receives an individual pronunciation score. Use Chrome or Edge and allow microphone access.

Daniel: Hi, Laura! Good morning.
Laura: Hi, Daniel! Good morning. How are you?
Daniel: I’m fine, thanks. And you?
Laura: I’m good, thank you.
Daniel: Today we have Environmental Monitoring class.
Laura: Yes. First, we need to check the school garden.
Daniel: I agree. We have to follow the class rule.
Laura: The first rule is to prepare the equipment.
Daniel: Yes. We need the thermometer and the notebook.
Laura: In my opinion, we should check the soil first.
Daniel: I disagree. I think we should check the temperature first.
Laura: Why?
Daniel: Because the teacher says it is the first step.
Laura: Okay. I agree with you.
Daniel: It is important to write all the information.
Laura: Yes, because we need the information for our report.
Daniel: We also need to wear our school uniform.
Laura: I agree. The uniform is important during school activities.
Daniel: Now, I can check the temperature.
Laura: Good. I can write the information in the notebook.
Daniel: The temperature is 24 degrees.
Laura: Okay. Now we can check the soil.
Daniel: In my opinion, the soil is very dry.
Laura: I disagree. It looks a little wet.
Daniel: Let’s use the sensor.
Laura: Good idea. It is important to use the equipment correctly.
Daniel: The soil is wet, but not very wet.
Laura: Yes. We do not need to water the plants now.
Daniel: I agree because the soil has enough water.
Laura: Another rule is to clean the equipment after the activity.
Daniel: Yes. It is important to keep the equipment clean.
Laura: The activity is easy, but we need to be careful.
Daniel: In my opinion, this class is interesting.
Laura: I agree. We learn English and Environmental Monitoring at the same time.
Daniel: Great! We finished the activity.
Laura: Yes. See you in the next class!
Daniel: See you later, Laura. Bye!
Laura: Bye, Daniel! Have a nice day!

HOUR 2 · Strategy & Academic Interaction 60 MIN
Apply the strategy through dialogue, classification and justification.
2A · Guided Dialogues

Read each dialogue and identify the diagnostic information, the strategy used, and the evidence that supports the decision.

Dialogue 1 · Reading Diagnostic
Teacher: What did your diagnostic show?
Student: I read quickly, but inference questions take me too long.
Teacher: What strategy could help you improve?
Student: I can underline clues before I choose an answer.
diagnostic → clues → strategy
TIMING INFERENCE DISTRACTOR
Dialogue 2 · Classifying Mistakes
Sara: I got six correct answers, but I missed four questions.
Mateo: Let’s classify the mistakes: vocabulary, inference, timing, or distractor.
Sara: Two mistakes were inference questions because I ignored the clues.
Mateo: Good. That tells you what to practice next.
Dialogue 3 · Evidence and Strategy Goal
Teacher: What is your first strategy goal?
Student: I want to stop choosing options only because they repeat words from the text.
Teacher: How will you decide whether an option is correct?
Student: I will look for evidence in the text and check if the option really answers the question.
